The most promising
option for hydrogen production from renewable resources is water electrolysis. It
is a process that uses electricity to split water into oxygen and hydrogen.
This process takes place in a unit which is known as an electrolyzer. Ranging
from small, appliance size units to large scale units, electrolyzers are
well-suited for central production facilities that could be tied directly to
renewable or other non-greenhouse-gas-emitting forms of electricity production.
